A total of twenty teachers from the centre attended an introductory workshop on Synthetic Phonics. This workshop is in conjunction with the recent educational materials that was donated to Pusat Ehsan by CfBT Education Services (B) Sdn Bhd.

Presented by Juliet Cowley, English Language Teaching Manager of CfBT Brunei; Synthetic Phonics is a method of teaching student to read in their initial stage of learning. The method is taught with 44 sounds in English and blending these sounds with a letter or group of letters in order to efficiently read words and sencentes. This teaching made fun and can be taught effectively through multi-sensory and motor approaches (hearing, sight, tactile, vocalization and motor planning) that will enhance learning by every students especially with special needs.

Synthetic Phonics has proven to be a very effective and is largely used around the world.

The workshop is a part the organization's vision and continued endeavour in bringing excellent services to people with special needs in the country. Pusat Ehsan would like to appreciate and extend its gratitude to the staff and management of CfBT Brunei Sdn Bhd for its effort and support in extending their expertise in quality education and learning.

An auspicious donation to Pusat Ehsan and five other charity organization was received at the conclusion of the successful Consumer Fair Part IV at ICC last Sunday.

Pusat Ehsan genially received a B$1,000 cheque donation from this prestigious and well esteemed event. Witnessed and graced the ceremony was the guest of honour, Pehin Orang Kaya Dewa Pahlawan Dato Paduka Awang Haji Dani bin Hj Ibrahim, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs. The cheque was handed by the Chairman of Sunlit Advertising Sdn Bhd., Pengiran Salleh Ab Rahaman and Sunlit Advertising Managing Director, Mr Jackson Ting.

The 4-day event attracted a record of more than an average of 14,000 visitors a day with 300 participating booths, mostly are from small and medium entrepreneurs. In addition exhibition booths and donation boxes of all known charity organizations in the country was set up to promote public awareness and to attract support.

Pusat Ehsan extends warmest thanks to the Organizing Committee of this year Consumer Fair and the public for their continued heart felt support to the centre.

Pusat Ehsan together with the Dental department under the Ministry of Health started the oral health screening for students yesterday. The activity catered for almost 20 students with special needs, who are at high risk of having dental and oral diseases.

The oral health screening and dental hygiene workshop aims to promote early detection and intervention for all students and trainees of the centre. This activity will be conducted for four consecutive Thursdays, which will also highlight towards education and awareness for all family members about the child's current oral status.

Pusat Ehsan wish to thank the Ministry of Health for their continuing support with regards to the health of people with special needs.

In response to continual organizational and professional excellence, Pusat Ehsan Management is pursuing the endeavor of having a well structured-all year round training programs to all the staff members. The planned programs and activities will fulfill in enhancing the staff a better understanding with high expected proficiency in dealing with individuals with special needs.

Early this week alone, the teaching staff had their day of First Aid training course supported by Accident and Emergency Department (AED) of the Ministry of Health. The seminar and the practical workshop was a content-rich education and imperative procedures when emergency is needed.

In compliance with the Workplace Health and Safety, Pusat Ehsan will be able to ensure the health and safety of its employees and most especially its special needs students through the the First Aid course conducted. Through this, the organization will be able to provide and maintain adequate personnel, first aid precautions and facilities for effective emergency management. Additionally, a fire safety drill and building inspections will be pursuing to be conducted before the end of the month on its premises.

FM Brunei Event Management will be organizing Charity Expo for Pusat Ehsan at The Mall starting today until Sunday. The Expo will commence this afternoon at 2:00pm.

FM Brunei prepared various programmes and activities during the four-day charity event. There are about 40 booths expect to be opened, attracting generous individual to participate in selling items, on which the all procceds gained will be given directly to Pusat Ehsan. In addition, a colouring contest will be held on Thursday and Friday afternoon at 2:00pm.

The Charity Expo aims to educate the public about people with special needs, their talents, capabilites, and their potential in our society as effective and efficient citizen.

The event will concluded on Sunday with performance from Pusat Ehsan students and teaching staff and other invited guess.

The Arthini Cafe and Cathering will be celebrating its anniversary on the 30th of November (Sunday). The event will be held in its premises in Kampong Bunut and all proceeds will be generously given to Pusat Ehsan. The public are invited to savor the authentic Northern Malaysian halal cuisine and at the same time help Pusat Ehsan students and trainees.

Every year Arthini Cafe and Cathering, known to many as Restoran Nasi Kandar Penang, show their commitment to the society by supporting Pusat Ehsan by organizing this one of a kind charity food fair.

In conjunction with 18th Rotary Club International District 3310 Conference that was held in the country recently, a group of 50 Rotarian spouses from the district visited Pusat Ehsan last Saturday. According to the main organizer of the visit, Ms Betty Young the aim of the visitation is to share their blessings, encourage awareness about the centre and individuals with special needs, and to contribute teaching aids to the students.

Rotary club is all out support in all areas of charitable services and humanitarian works promoting goodwill and peace all around the globe. To date in 2005, during the Pan Borneo Meet in the country, the Roatry Club donated a bungalow to Pusat Ehsan which is now currently used by Physical Rehabilitation purposes and functions.

Pusat Ehsan supporters and sponsors witnessed a fun filled moments of get together of all teaching staff, administrative personnel, rehabilitation team, enthusiastic volunteers and friends and members of Board of Trustees as they celebrate this year's Pusat Ehsan Staff Night.

The event is an annual revelry in recognition of valuable dedication of all staff members making Pusat Ehsan successful in bringing quality education and care for people with special needs. Pusat Ehsan staff, the 'special people' with special quality has a year round responsibility to bring the best of every child's well-being. And undeniably every staff has successsfully accomplished this responsibility clearly seen through consistent growth of student population, an increase in public awareness and support to individual with special needs and the steadfast organization development.

The event was held at Seasons Restaurant last friday highlighted with convivial entertainers and delightful RBC buffet meal. The event concluded with staff also showing a warm appreciation and gratitude in respond to the continuing dedication of every members of Board of Trustee to the organization and Pusat Ehsan commited supporters.

NBT Brunei recently organized Toyota Classics concert featuring talented repertoire of the Vienna Operetta Orchestra under the baton of founding conductor Mr. Siegfried Andraschek.

NBT Managing Director, Mr Ninan Chacko thanked Toyota Motor Asia Pacific Pte Ltd and numerous goverment agencies for making the Toyota Classics a success and meaningful to charity organizations. The proceed went to charity and was presented by Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, who was the Guest of Honour.

An amount of 90,000 was collected from the concert and Pusat Ehsan was among the three charitable institutions that received the generous donation. Senior Trustee Dato Paduka Mohd Alimin received the cheque on behalf of the centre. In his message Dato Alimin writes, "If charity is a window of service, this evening's function should offer us innumerable sights beyond sights that cannot but not humble us before His eyes. Who can deny your deed of charity? And what is in name?", he also added "on this joyous occasion, let us celebrate the spirit of charity that is Toyota Classics. Thanks on behalf of our special people to whom this function is partly dedicated. Thanks for having us as a part of this noble enterprise".

The Toyota Classics audience mesmerized themselves with authentic Viennese talents spearheaded by brillant tenor Mr. Michael Suttner and soprano vocalist Izabeta Labuda. The Vienna Operetta Orchestra engaged in various genre that includes the world renown classical music penned by Austrian great master Johann Sebastian Strauss and Franz Lehar. The concert also features the crowd favourite Malaysian singer, Amy Mastura.
